It is interesting that Amlici first attempted to gain his desire to be king by using the lawful means of putting it to a vote. Once that failed he showed his true colors by commanding those who followed him to bring the Nephites into subjection through military force. Because the Nephites relied on the strength of the Lord they were able not only to defeat the Amlicites, but also to defeat the larger army of the Lamanites after the Amlicites had joined them. That must have been a harrowing time for Alma.
