Mosiah 23: 1-16
Alma and his people were led to a beautiful land when they fled from the armies of Noah. They called the land Helam. I find it interesting, but not surprising, that the land of Helam was one of the lands of the Lamanites where the people would not hear the gospel when it was preached by the sons of Mosiah. The people wanted Alma to be their king. He reminded them of the damage that a bad king could have and declined the honor even while admitting that having a good king always would be a good thing. Alma remembered that he had been among those caught up by the wickedness of Noah and his kingdom. Though he declined to lead them as king, Alma served as the High Priest of the church and served as a leader to the people.
