Mosiah 19: 10-29
Noah would probably have been safer if, when he saw the Lamanites overtaking his people, he had shouted “I’m selfish, cowardly and afraid.” Instead he sent the same message but many of the men of his people followed him abandoning their families. Those men later killed him after they realized how cowardly they had acted and Noah commanded them not to return to their families. Had he shouted the truth some or all of those men would not have thought to follow him. Those who stayed with their families were successful in getting the Lamanites to spare their lives. The cost was that they gave half of their goods to the Lamanites and agreed to pay tribute of half their annual increase in exchange for being allowed to return to their lands. The people chose Limhi to lead them, because he was the son of Noah. They were told to deliver Noah to the Lamanites if they found him, but the Lamanites were apparently satisfied when they learned that he had been killed in the wilderness by his men. Limhi was able to have peace in the land for 2 years.
