Mosiah 15: 1-5
This wording about the father and the son has always been confusing to me. On the other hand, this time I see an important principle being illustrated. It is crucial for us to recognize that Christ freely chose to become subject to the derision of men and the weakness of mortality. His sacrifice is all the more compelling because he had the power to rise completely above it and not partake of the suffering. We do not have that power so our suffering is not completely voluntary. Still, if we endure it well we are rewarded as if it were voluntary.
