Jacob 7
I wonder what makes a person work so diligently to destroy the doctrine of Christ? I also realize that Sherem probably used the very same logic and the very same challenge with other strong believers in Christ – “I would not deny Him if He existed, show me a sign!” Previously the strong probably ignored his challenge while the weak accepted his arguments. Once he had regained his strength from being smitten (after many days) Sherem called the people and confessed that he had lied and been deceived. He also told them that, in the face of death, he feared that his sin was unpardonable. Many were moved to repent when they heard his confession and peace was restored among the Nephites, although they were continually at war with the Lamanites.
