Jacob explains the command that Nephi gave him regarding this record, which command would be repeated to all the keepers of the small plates of Nephi. Nephi commanded that these records be reserved for that which was sacred and allow for secular history to be reserved for the large plates which were kept by the kings – who the people called Nephi.
