“The LDS scholar has his citizenship in the kingdom and carries his passport into the world – not the other way around.” [Neal A. Maxwell]
Brother Flake said in class, “Pornography as is the most pervasive in the lives of good young people (so-called “mild” pornography — watching questionable movies and the like) will not usually destroy their lives outwardly. It will, however, limit you to spiritual mediocrity. You can hold your status in the Church, but you cannot enjoy the great blessings of the spirit unless you purge that from your life completely”
Elder M. Russell Ballard related the story of Joseph Smith and the priesthood brethren in the log cabin before Zions Camp. Joseph told them that in spite of their testimonies they had no idea or comprehension of the destiny of the Church. (Devotional Address)
Some say we are seeing the fulfillment of that prophecy. I wonder if we (as a church or as individuals) truly have the vision, or if it is yet larger than we comprehend in our imperfect understanding (projected membership of a quarter of a billion in 80 years notwithstanding.)
Elder Ballard again: many of us here today will be called to positions of leadership and responsibility in the kingdom. Prepare now.
It seems to me that the church steps up during each successive generation. Like as if each generation has one man or seer (at least) who holds a new vision. He leads to a new level and is replaced by someone who has followed and seen another vision to lead us on to the next step.
More from Elder Ballard: “Today we continue to face opposition and we can expect it to accelerate.” . . . “Who will know the doctrine and keep it pure?” . . . “It is the responsibility of your generation.” . . . “As an apostle I charge you to be prepared spiritually.” . . . “It will require your full energy.”
