Only six days after that last entry I found out that USU had twice as many applicants as they expected for the IT program this year. Because of that they rejected two thirds of the applicants instead of accepting two thirds of them. I was in the cut portion of the applications. I was not happy to hear that, but I was particularly annoyed to learn that part of the weakness of my application was that my letters of recommendation all came from non-IT people. All the IT people I know are USU faculty so they can’t write letters for a USU application. Also I did not have IT related classes or work. It felt like I was supposed to be inside before they would allow me to come in. Catch 22!! After a couple of days I cooled off and began to examine my current options. Having been rejected by USU I can’t go to BYU with Andy and their deadline is long past so I can’t just apply there. Andy gave me a listing of IT programs in the United States (everywhere) and he marked the ones he considered to be the best. That cut the list to 27. BYU and USU were out so I had 25 to look at. After considering requirements, reputation and application deadlines I have decided to take the GRE and apply to Lehigh in Pennsylvania, Virginia Tech in Virginia, and the University of Georgia. All I know is I need to graduate and move on.
