Journal 16 March 2004

After only one day I am beginning to remember the value of having a schedule where I include a plan for all the things I need to do. When I met Laura I was consistently studying the scriptures, writing in my journal and exercising. I have not missed my scripture study in over a year, but my journal writings have been sporadic or worse and my exercise has been non-existent in the last two years or more. Today I worked for 6 hours straight on my 6800 project because I had planned it – and it was good work. Earlier in the semester I had a hard time with two hours together on 6800. I started reading for my literature review on design which I have wanted to do for a while and I found that I could hardly put the books down. It makes a great difference when I care about the work. I have long suspected that to be true. Last semester my group did a literature review on the history of instructional technology. It turned out to be an angle that I did not care about and it was hard to pick up a book on the subject before it became crunch time. We kept putting off the work in favor of other projects. Life is caliming down. The girls know the schedule and they generally sleep through the night and Laura is starting to feel good even without people coming to help every day.
