3 Nephi 17
The statement by Christ that “[the Father] knoweth where He hath taken [the lost tribes of Israel]” reminds me of the master of the vineyard in Zenos’ allegory of the olive tree who could day to his servant, “you care for the roots of this tree; I know where I have placed the branches of the tame tree throughout the vineyard and I will worry about all of them.”
In most parables with a character representing our Heavenly Father or our Savior that character can represent either one equally well. This is because they are equal in their attributes and characteristics of perfection and perfectly united in their purposes. There are some parables where that is not the case (generally when there is an interaction between them and thus a character for Each). Although they are so frequently interchangeable in symbolic representations we must learn the differences in their roles and relationships with us if we are to fully understand the plan of salvation.
There was apparently some visible manifestation when Christ prayed among the Nephite children which the people saw and could not describe.
