1 Samuel 7 – 8
Samuel had a circuit of four locations that he would go to annually to judge Israel. What a life he must have had. When the people finally abanadoned their other gods then the Lord began to fight their battles for them.

I was tempted to think of Samuel’s sons similar to the sons of Eli but in truth the sons of Samuel, whatever their wickedness in taking bribes and perverting justice did not, so far as we are told, commit adultery with the women who would gather outside the tabernacle. With Eli and then Samuel having sons so unlike themselves it should not be surprising that the people sought some other government although some perspective should have been able to convince them that a king would be no safer than a judge.

In like manner we have taken our rule of law and tried to ignore our constitution such that many of our people believe that whatsoever thing Congress does is legal because they have been elected by the people.
