Numbers 30
The doctrine that father can disallow the vows of daughters and husbands can do the same for the vows of wives sounds chauvinistic but in context it is a way to create unity. Not only is the vow disallowed but the woman is held entirely guiltless for failing to keep the vow. Also, we need to note that the man cannot be fickle, he must disallow the vow the day he hears it, otherwise he is required to allow it or he is held responsible for making her a liar. Women who are not living in the house of their father and have no husband are held to the same standard as any man.
