Mosiah 16 – 18
I love how Abinadi testifies that the arms of mercy were extended to all people and that those who come forth in the resurrection of damnation do so because they refused to be carried by the arms of mercy, refused to call upon their Savior, refused to depart from their iniquities even after they had been warned of them. I’ll bet that statement really impacted Alma. He spent the rest of his life teaching what Abinadi said to teach – that the law of Moses was a shadow of things to come at that redemption cometh through Christ.
When Alma told the people that as members of the fold of God they should stand as witnesses of God even until death he, and possibly many of the people, probably thought about the death of Abinadi and his willingness to testify and duffer death for his testimony. Between the time that Alma first baptized people and the time they fled from the army of Noah the size of his group more than doubled (from 204 to 450).
