Genesis 37
Why did Reuben intervene for Joseph? I suspect that it was his age – that he was older and a bit more level-headed than his brothers (he was probably thirty or very nearly thirty while most of the brothers were in their young twenties – possibly even a couple of late teens). It’s also possible that Reuben was repentant in the aftermath of being caught in adultery with Bilhah. I wonder if a cooled temper for Judah was part of the reason he thought of selling Joseph – or was it simply greed.
