Mormon 3
I wonder if those ten years without war were the most frustrating of Mormon’s life – not because he loved war, but because he saw the futility of preaching to the Nephites because they would not repent. He spent that whole time helping the people to prepare their fortifications and preaching to them. The fortifications held against two assaults and then he abandoned leading them when they decided that they would take the battle to the Lamanites to avenge their dead – as if they had strength in themselves. Mormon wishes that he could persuade all to prepare for their day of judgment by repenting partly because he was unable to convince his own brethren to do exactly that.
