3 Nephi 9 – 10
I wonder if Jacob had already been killed by a secret combination in the few years that his people had separated themselves from the Nephites. Of course I have no evidence either way, but that is the way of a secret combination – even being on the inside at the head of the combination does not guarantee your safety. I notice that Bountiful was not mentioned in the list of cities that were destroyed. I’m sure it was damaged and many people died there as well, but perhaps it was more righteous than those other cities and suffered less damage. That would be another reason that the people gathered there after the destruction.
I had never noticed before that prior to the voice being heard declaring the cause of the destruction and inviting the people to repentance the people were weeping and wailing. after that voice came they were silent. Then, after the voice came again reminding the people of their covenant lineage and offering to gather them as a hen gathereth her chickens, they began weeping and lamenting again.
