Doctrine and Covenants + Church History – Lesson 33
When Brigham first arrived back in Nauvoo after the martyrdom he stated that he only wanted to know what the Lord desired for the church – he then called the Twelve together – it was after this meeting that he spoke to the people and sounded and to some appeared like Joseph. In an afternoon meeting he actually invited Sidney Rigdon to speak, but Sidney declined. The whole succession “crisis” was ended six weeks after Joseph died.
When it was time to leave Nauvoo the people were most concerned with receiving their temple ordinances. When things got to where they had nothing the Lord provided for the people. He will step in as necessary if we will follow Him and His chosen servants.
