1 Nephi 13
I have often thought that the taking away of plain and precious parts of the gospel from the Bible was the work of scribes removing passages. I realize now that it was more likely the work or church leaders and committees in their selection of what writings to include in the collection—or more often in what not to include. After those selections the church began its insistence that people must listen to the clergy for the proper interpretation and understanding of the doctrine; an insistence which lasted into the 1600’s at least.

Doubtless this explanation by the angel that many plain truths would be restored by the coming forth of the record kept by his people served as a motivation for Nephi to keep his record and pass it down through the generations.
