I get the distinct impression that his involvement with the band of Kishkumen was not the beginning of Gadianton’s history of murder by secret combination. It may be that he saw an opportunity when he discovered a band who had taken such an oath but who were less polished in their use of it—like Osama bin Laden taking a homegrown jihadist group under his wing and making them part of the Al Queda network.
