3 Nephi 13
How can we pray for long periods of time without repetitions? It requires two things. First, we need to change our expectations of what constitutes prayer. We need to realize that listening is part of prayer. We also need to develop the skill of not breaking the silence (which is a useful skill in other conversations as well as prayer). Second, we need to have a clear comprehension of why we are praying. This includes clearly understanding the purpose of prayer and also clearly understanding the reason for the specific prayer we are engaging in currently. With those two things we are able to keep praying as long as necessary (in other words keep the communication channel of prayer open) without multiplying many words. (This is not meant to imply that there are never times in prayer where we do have a lot to say.)
The pattern set out in the Lord’s Prayer is about the attitude of humility, and willingness that He displays more than the specific examples or topics within the prayer.
It is important to note that Christ turned to the twelve when he spoke about taking no thought. I’m sure he did the same when he gave this same sermon in Galilee.
