Isaiah 25 – 26
I love the image of the Lord as a defender of the poor. In fact, that is a definitively righteous trait. It is true that one may defend the poor and still do many wicked things but defending the poor is itself good. It is also true that wicked things are sometimes done in the name of defending the poor. Therefore it is important to understand what truly constitutes defending the poor—simply giving them money does not qualify. Treating them equal to the rich and giving them opportunities to advance in addition to helping meet basic and immediate needs is truly defending them.
