Mormon records that there had never been so great wickedness among the House of Israel as were among the posterity of Lehi at this time. The Jaredites were not if the House of Israel. If they had been that statement might not have been true.
I suspect that the atrocities of the Nephites that were recorded in Moroni chapter 9 began just before the Nephites never again gained power over the Lamanites. The last time they took a city was in angry response to their women and children being sacrificed. If they then offended God and angered the Lamanites by the brutality and depravity described in Moroni 9 it would have ensured that the Lamanites were at least as angry with them (justifiably so) as they were when their people are sacrificed.
