John 1
I’m not sure if the phrase “the next day” should be taken literally – that the day after John declared to the messengers of the Pharisees that he was not the Messiah but instead one crying in the wilderness “make straight the way of the Lord” Christ came and John declared to his followers that this was the One coming after him.
It sounds as if John the apostle was a follower of John the Baptist and received this account directly from John the Baptist before he was killed. We know that at least Andrew, the brother of Peter, went from being a disciple of John to being an apostle of Christ. He may not have been the only one to make that transition.
Nathanael’s introduction to Christ was very interesting. I’d like to learn more about him.
