1 Corinthians 13 – 14
I believe I have come to understand in recent years how realistically a person could have the gift if prophecy or do any of the other things Paul mentions here and not have charity. I know because I have been gaining charity and I can recognize how hollow my spiritual gifts were before I started to have charity and yet how they were still very real gifts.
Paul recommend the gift of prophecy as being superior to the gift of unknown tongues because prophecy edifies others. I would agree – especially including the caveat offered by Paul that if there is an interpretation of the tongues it serves more purpose. The message is that all gifts should be used with the purpose of edifying rather than just to show off.
