Ammaron must have been inspired to entrust the records to Mormon because no matter how bright and righteous a bit may be at age ten, no mortal can have real assurance about how he will turn out when he grows up among a wicked society.
I hasn’t realized that when Mormon retorted that the three Nephite disciples withdrew from the people that he did so in a context that nearly pinpoints the time of their withdrawal. They withdrew between 322 and 326 AD. This also means that they withdrew before Moroni was born any visitations he had with them were times when they choose to minister directly to him.
