Apostasy both leads to and stems from people walking in spiritual darkness. As doctrine and Covenants 50 so succinctly put it, that which does not edify is darkness. Such darkness shall not only come from outside the church but even within the church there shall be those who arise and speak perverse things to draw followers for themselves.
