Enoch’s Ministry

Adam lived another 308 years after which was born meaning that Enoch was 243 years into his ministry before Adam died. For almost his entire life the first man on earth was still available for anyone who knew where to look for him. In fact, all of his ancestors were alive for virtually his entire life. I wonder how well he knew Adam or how well Adam knew of Enoch’s work.

I am beginning to wonder if Enoch was the first man who was called to go out and actively preach the gospel to the world. Adam taught his children but I don’t know if he went about seeing for unbelievers among his posterity and calling them to repentance.

Enoch says that the land he came from was still a land of righteousness. I wonder if the patriarchs had settled in relatively close proximity to each other and those who wouldn’t hearken spread out to other places.

Enoch tells the people that his people know the first man. Others who left may not have been told where they came from. In fact, it’s possible that those who lived outside the ways of righteousness didn’t have the lifespans in the many hundreds of years range. Maybe they only lived 250 years or less and so they had more generations than Enoch and less knowledge of where their ancestors derived from.
