Joseph of Arimathea was a Pharisee and a member of the Sanhedrin but unlike our traditional view of Pharisees he was apparently open to the truths taught by the Savior. We can only speculate about how publicly he accepted those truths but we know that he allowed the followers of Jesus to bury Him in Joseph’s own tomb when they took His body down off of the cross. That was obviously a fairly public demonstration of at least tolerance of not discipleship. I imagine it cost him some prestige among the Pharisees.
