Defending Hezekiah
It’s amazing how the Lord defended Hezekiah against the king of Assyria because Hezekiah was committed to serving the Lord unlike his father’s and unlike his brethren in the kingdom of Israel. That is the time of Isaiah—if never been sure before where in the historical books Isaiah belonged.

Penance
When Ammon suggests to the king (not clear if that is Lamoni or Anti-Nephi-Lehi) that they should go to Zerahemla to escape being butchered by the remaining Lamanites (under the influence of the Amalekites) his response is that without an answer from the Lord they will stay and perish in their own land. I realized…

Extras cautious Aaron
When I read the words of Ammon prior to Aaron warning him against getting boastful All I hear is praise for what God has done. He mentions himself and his brethren only to say that they have been privileged to be instruments in the work. Even before the rebuke all the glory in his words…

A taste for blood
The seed of Amulon clearly had a desire to kill as they moved from killing believing Lamanites to killing neighbors to killing more Lamanites who were starting to believe. Honestly they probably killed less because of any excitement and more because they were afraid of losing power if the people around them began to believe.

When terror fails
The whole purpose of attacking the believers was not simply to kill them but to frighten then into submission do they would abandon their faith. When the campaign of naked aggression failed to terrorize them, indeed failed to even make them try to protect themselves it was the less committed of those in the terrorizing…

Elisha’s servant
The fact that Gehazi could serve with Elisha and yet try to lie and take gain for the work Elisha had done is a reminder that even people involved with the servants if the Lord at a high level are no more than men—especially when they begin thinking like the natural man.

A prophet of miracles
The stories of Elisha talk about lots of miracles but don’t seem to hold a lot in the way of teaching doctrine. We can learn from them but Elisha himself doesn’t leave a record of things he taught, just things he did among the people that were miraculous. Maybe he was living in a time…

What don’t we know?
I cannot make sense of the story of Elisha cursing the children who called him names. Based on the fact that the Lord honored his cheating there must have been some reason it merit to it but I feel there must be something we don’t know about the children or about the insult they offered…

Excited to share
When the king of the Lamanites was converted to the Lord he was excited to share his new faith with his people and so he decreed that his people should not abuse or detain the Nephite missionaries.

Personal preparation
It seems obvious to me that after his encounter with Ammon the father of Lamoni thought about that experience—what he had heard from admin and Lamoni and what he had observed interacting with Ammon—such that he was prepared to believe by the time Aaron arrived in his land.
