  • Nauvoo House

I never before realized that the Nauvoo House was funded by shareholders. It makes me wonder who those shareholders ended up being and how many shares they acquired. I love the order set out, that there was a maximum number of shares anyone could purchase and a minimum price for stocks. A share cost $50…

  • When and how

I hope to see the day when we receive the words of the lost tribes of Israel to acompanhando the words of the Jews and the words of the Nephites.

  • Look not for another Messiah

Nephi prophesies that the day will come when the Jews will no longer look for another Messiah besides Jesus. I wonder if they will do that in s way that we will notice from the outside.

  • Patterns of judgement

Repeatedly the Lord tells that His people will be challenged and oppressed by other nations for their waywardness but at the same time He promised that the time will come when He remembers the covenant to gather them in and He will chasten those other nations which are lifted up in their pride.

  • Focus on Christ

I never before considered that the portions of Isaiah that Nephi’s decided to record wholesale are those which speak most directly to the mission of Christ, the prophecies of Christ, and the dealings of Christ with His covenant people. That is fitting with the started aim of Nephi’s record.

When they Lord says that He will take away the wise and prudent from among the people I think that in most cases He doesn’t need to do anything. When they are wicked the people often vanish the wise and prudent from among them without any intervention.

  • Softened hearts

I will soften the hearts of the Gentiles, that they shall be like unto a father to {thy seed}. 2 Nephi 10:18 I suspect that the way Native Americans have become romanticized in American culture is a sign of hearts being softened. Before they were romanticized they were reviled among many of the European transplants…

  • Shrinking from a bitter cup

When Joseph calls for the Lord to pierce with His eye the enemies if the saints, he is doing so out of mortal weakness and frustration. He is righteous enough that he calls upon the Lord for redress rather than seeking to punish his enemies himself—that’s a step better than many men. But those who…

  • Protected by humility

Being wise is good unless we let it lead us to think we do not need God. Having wealth is only a danger to us if we set our hearts upon our riches rather than looking to the poor and needy that we could reach. Humility protects us from becoming full of ourselves, our wants,…

  • Separation

What did Nephi think when he had to flee from his brethren for his own life? Did he think of his father fleeing from the people of Jerusalem?
