  • Fickle servants

My instincts is too say that I can’t imagine how Jeroboam could do quickly and completely turn his back on God after being given Israel or how the grocery from Judah could abandon his instructions or how the prophet in Israel would proactively trick the prophet from Israel. Clearly none of them was securely attached…

  • Blessings for a righteous nation

Notice that while Solomon and Israel followed the commandments they had the riches of nations flowing to them without compulsion. This doesn’t always happen on an individual scale but prosperity flowers naturally when there is righteousness at scale in society.

  • Vision

I wonder how many people had a vision of the work that Solomon commissioned for the building of the temple. Nice of them had ever seen anything like the temple that he was building.

  • When will Zion be built?

The instructions to purchase land for the city of refuge that they would last the foundation of makes me wonder when Zion will be built. The land that the people purchased at the time was later taken from them. The church had acquired large tracts in that region but i don’t know what to expect.…

  • The purpose of gifts

God gives gifts is the spirit for the purpose of blessing all those who keep the commandments and all those who seek to keep the commandments. If any gifts are being used in a way that excludes some from benefiting (meaning refusing to use them for the benefit of some who are seeking to keep…

  • A tenuous beginning

Solomon knew when he was first anointed that things weren’t settled in his favor by everyone. He responded generously to those who promised to be peaceful but if they have any sign of maneuvering he removed them.

  • Offerings that cost nothing

It is interesting to think of the implications of making offerings that cost nothing of the one making the offering. David recognized that such an offering would say nothing about the way his heart was inclined toward the Lord. He insisted that he offer only something that he had fairly paid for.

  • Another rebellion

I had forgotten that as soon as Absalom died there was a second rebellion against David. For all the money of the kingdom of David being strong it really was precarious before Solomon brought stability.

  • Not so peaceful

I had never realized that during the reign of David there was so much intrigue with his own son seeking to depose him. It reminds me of the tumult asking the Jaredites throughout their history.

  • Peace in Zion

The time will come when the people of the Lord will build Zion and the wicked will not date to go there. Among the wicked they will have the choice to fight for themselves or go to Zion for peace. There will be no peace outside Zion at that day.
