Accountability
We are taught in the church to have children baptized at 8 years old as they have reached the age of accountability. The more I think about it and experience the more I realize that accountability doesn’t come in a stroke at any age. Our children gradually become more accountable over time. By the age…

Mistaking evil for good
Mormon promises that the way to judge between good and evil is as plain as night and day. Sometimes e may confuse evil for good because it will, as much as possible, disguise itself as not evil. The best it can mimic is frivolous and not all that is frivolous is evil but we can…

Conducting meetings according to the spirit
I love that we have a clear record of how crucial ordinances were conducted (baptisms, ordinations, sacrament prayers) but I like the experience of the last couple of months where we have conducted sacrament in our homes and I have had the opportunity to conduct the meetings in the best way I can to bring…

Bonus material
The entire book of Moroni is content that Moroni didn’t anticipate having the opportunity to provide. I’m sure he saw it as a blessing for our generation that he could add to that which had already been recorded.

How far would Coriantumr have gone?
I wonder if Coriantumr would have been willing to give himself up as Shiz demanded of his people had not gotten angry at the people of Shiz. How committed was he to trying to save the people? Why would Coriantumr live?
As I wonder why it was that Coriantumr was prophesied to live whether he repented or not, it occurred to me that it might have been a test – the Lord was not looking to have Coriantumr repent because of a threat of death – He wanted the repentance to be sincere.

Why that answer?
When Moroni prayed that the Lord would give grace to the gentiles so that they would have charity he was praying for a good thing. That makes me wonder at the answer he received – “it doesn’t matter to you if they have charity.” Is that because they won’t, as a group, have charity? It…

Rejecting righteous leadership
When the people are wicked enough to fight against and ignore a righteous leader that is a pretty good indication that they are growing ripe in iniquity. Wicked people with a wicked leader tells us less about the state of their friends than wicked people who will not be influenced by a righteous leader.

Public vs private virtute
The record about Morianton is interesting as it calls out the discrepancy between his public works (which were just) and his private behavior (which was unjust). The fact that public and private behaviors don’t always match is one of the reasons that we must withhold judgement regarding our fellow men. We may see good works…
