Personal miracles
I imagine that when Moroni starts writing about God being a god of miracles he is thinking on various miracles he has witnessed in his own life even as he writes about miracles that have previously been recorded in scripture.
-
Overwhelmed
It is plain that Moroni is overwhelmed at the task his father left him. Having just suffered through the annihilation of his people he can hardly think about finishing the record that his father had dedicated his life to producing.

Repetition
Mormon 7 is really the same message and the same audience as 3 Nephi 29 which is a reminder that this book has a purpose and that Mormon was intent on fulfilling that purpose by repeating the message to future readers—and especially the descendants of Lehi —that this was their opportunity to repent and return…

What is the full picture?
Mormon records the deaths of nearly a quarter million of the Nephites and it must have taken place all at once. I wonder how many Lamanites were also killed there. It could theoretically have been a comparable number although I personally suspect that the battle was so uneven that the landlord suffered only a fraction…

Why act without hope?
Morning says that the people thought he could deliver them but that he was without hope. He obviously recognized that the day of grace was past with the Nephites but that makes me wonder why he would choose to lead them when he couldn’t hope to save them. I suspect the answer is that while…

Light vs Darkness
One of the key messages of the Book of Mormon for civil society is how critical it is that we recognize the difference between secret plans, which is how Satan operates, and open work for the benefit of society which is the pattern of God.
-
Anarchy
By the time the Nephites decided to go on the offensive the land was reduced to chaos and anarchy. In that kind of society nothing is ever safe.

Why did we get this detail?
I have long assumed that we got such a detailed account of the last generation of the neighbors leading up to their destruction simply because Mormon didn’t advertise his own original record. Today I am thinking that there may be more reason than mere expediency. I wonder if we need to see how the people…

What was “peace for four years”?
Mormon talks about a war followed by four years of peace leading into more war. He also talks about the Gadiantons in the land during that time and it makes me wonder about the 4 years of peace. Was that 4 years without open warfare but with rampant wickedness and deception which were degrading the…
