Was Nephi trying to let his brothers see that Israel turning away from God was a consistent problem by choosing this section of Isaiah to share with them? That would make sense since they were living that pattern and since they were arguing that the people of Jerusalem were righteous.

It’s interesting to watch Laman and Lemuel repeat the cycle of getting scared or prodded into being righteous only to gravitate towards unrighteousness as soon as the present hurdle is cleared and a new one is before them. It is proof that a bout of righteousness is not proof of conversion.

Did Nephi ever think when they arrived in the land Bountiful that it was the promised land? They were there many days before he was called to the mountain so it’s possible but if so he did not complain when the Lord informed him that they needed to cross the great waters before them.
