    Nephi preferred to use the words of those who knew of Christ and had seen His day wherever possible. Just as the angel had instructed him, it was Christ who he spent his life witnessing after his own vision.

  • Great are the promises

    There are reasons why the Nephites might feel cast off but Jacob reminds them to put their focus on the great promises which have been extended to them by the Lord. By looking for His promises they can remember how blessed them have been and how much He seeks their benefit.

  • Promises kept

    The message of Isaiah that Jacob shared is to not be discouraged by trials – that despite trials the promises of the Lord will be kept for his people.

  • Jacob the messenger

    To some degree, Jacob as a preacher to the people of Nephi could never be more than the messenger so long as Nephi lived because the people always looked to Nephi for direction. That may be why Jacob told them that Nephi desired him to speak these words of Isaiah.

    I realized why the land of Nephi became the capital for the Lamanites after the Nephites left under Mosiah – it was because it was superior to anything the Lamanites had built because of the industry of the Nephites.
