  • The message for today

I love this message for today from Mormon: Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, … and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, … that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel. 3 Nephi 30:2

  • Hiss, spurn, and make game

The Lord wants against what gentiles have long done in hissing, spending, and making game of the Jews as if He will not fulfill His covenant with them. It strikes me that hissing, spurning, and making game of anyone—even Nazis, Marxists, or contemporarily Trumpists—is universally contrary to how followers of Christ would respond to any…

  • They just wanted to keep working

The desire of the three neighbors wasn’t to avoid death, they simply wanted to participate in bringing people to Christ and moving the work forward forever. It is perhaps somewhat like “O that I were an angel” from Alma. It is consecration dialed up to eleven. It is, “I will give everything I have to…

  • What’s in a name?

As I read the words of Christ regarding the name of His church it made me think of how we have referred to the church in these latter days and I realized how getting people to use a different name for the church is a subtle attack by the devil to undermine the church. It…

  • The sacrament is central

I assume that the words of Malachi which Jesus also shared with the Nephites were the most important words in the record of Malachi. If so, what is the message that those words convey? I think they convey the idea that the people were off course with their focus on the wing metrics. They were…

  • Merging doctrine

After ensuring that their own record was not left incomplete, the Savior introduced the Nephites to one important prophet who had come among the Jews after they had been separated. That makes me pay special attention to Malachi.

  • Filling in the gaps

I love how the Savior taught the importance of record keeping by reviewing their records and gently reminding them of things that had not been recorded.

  • The covenant of My peace shall not be removed

I needed this comfort today. It contains no promise regarding the outcome of this stressful election but it assures that regardless of the outcome the peace of the Lord is promised to those who make and keep covenants with Him.

  • The work hath already commenced

It is comforting to realize that the Lord is already at work fulfilling His covenant in these latter days. In days of uncertainty when people can’t seem to tell the difference between right and wrong it is comforting to have the assurance that the Lord is actively moving things forward—behind the scenes when necessary.
