The doctrine of Christ is not to stir the hearts of the children of men up to anger one against another but that such things should be done away and by their fruits ye shall know whether those who try to lead are in harmony with him—this who stoke division should be avoided.

The fact that the destruction was greater in the north where the most wicked of the tribes had fled is no coincidence. Likewise it is not by chance that there is no report of bountiful getting destroyed where the righteous would be gathering later. I’m sure they gathered there because it had not been destroyed…

We see the effect of the people repenting in the face of an existential threat—they drew closer together and closer to God as they weathered the threat and the established equitable laws in the aftermath. On the other hand, we see the effect of pride as people were lifted up in division due to disparities…

It occurs to me that one way to know that Samuel had succeeded in his leaving even if the people did not repent is the fact that the people were focused on the fulfilling of his prophecies. Before they were fulfilled the people liked for them and planned based on whether they would be fulfilled…

Is it possible to read these closing chapters of 3 Nephi and conclude that Mormon saw our day and recognized the kind of reactions that many among the gentiles would have who did not accept the restored gospel that was being brought among them.

I have a feeling that it was reading 3 Nephi 27 which brought President Nelson to the divizion that we needed to use the proper name of the church and discard the prominent use of the term “Mormon.”

I never thought before that the way Christ corrected the record of the Nephites is similar to His giving them the words He had given to Malachi. In both cases He was ensuring that the people had a complete picture of His teachings to His people.

It seems clear that the prophecy of Christ about the timing of His marvelous work in the latter days had been fulfilled. The question that remains is if there is more to fulfill for those who have not noticed what has already passed.

As I read this prophecy I am not always clear about whether some of the prophecies refer to the literal descendants of the Jews and which refer to the spiritual descendants ie. the faithful keepers of the new covenant.

The law of Moses died with Christ and was not resurrected with Him.
