  • Higher law

The laws taught by Jesus were higher than the law of Moses such that you can’t keep His teachings while braking the law of Moses.

  • A house of order

The first thing Christ did after establishing His identity was to set the church in order. He publicly gave Nephi authority to baptized asking with others and then taught the very words they should speak for baptism that “there shall be no disputations among you.” Clearly the people had not all seen eye to eye…

  • The voice of witnesses

When Heavenly Father soaks it is primarily to introduce His Son and testify that Christ is His authorized Representative. When Christ soaks it is to give glory to His Father and declare the plan of repentance and redemption. When the Holy Ghost shield it is to testify of truth concerning the Father, the Son, and…

  • Why so different?

When the voice of Christ came to the people at the time of the destruction the people understood the voice the first time. The voice told the people things that they already knew of the destruction in their local area as well as destruction that they could later confirm after the darkness lifted and they could swap stories with people from other locations. That would serve as another testament to the truth of what was said.

  • Set to the day?

With the destruction coming on the fourth day of the first month I begin to wonder if the Nephites didn’t just count their years from year when the sign of Jesus’s birth came but actually from the day that sign was given.

  • Success before the storms

I never realized before that in the year preceding the sign of Jesus’s death Nephi began to have measurable success in bringing people to repent and be converted. Hopefully many of those relatively fresh converts were saved when the destruction hit. Whether they were or not, that success to the truth that as society is…

  • Tribal congregation

If society split into tribes along any kind besides geography, the tribes would geographically consolidate until each tribe was functionally contiguous. If our society were to fracture we would see much chaos and uprooting of families during this period of consolidation.
