Alma 25 It seems that the children and grandchildren, or perhaps more likely the grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Amulon and his fellow priests were the ones who fulfilled Abinadi’s prophecy. That is not far removed from the generation that caused the prophecy to be made. I wonder (and doubt) if they knew anything about what…

Alma 24 The covenant made by the Anti-Nephi-Lehies was obviously a righteous covenant but that does not mean that it would have been unrighteous to defend themselves. The only reason Helaman later convinced them to keep their covenant was because they had already made the covenant to never take arms again. They chose this covenant…

Alma 23 Why is it that Ammon was led to spend all his time among a people who most quickly received the word while the rest of his brethren labored among Lamanites throughout the land some of whom were very hardened? It would seem to me that Ammon could have left the church in the…

Alma 20 I can’t decide if Lamoni was naive about his father (considering how his father first reacted to learning about Ammon) or if he knew the goodness in his father (considering his actions later when he was taught by Aaron). I just realized that Lamoni’s father was angry because of his belief that Ammon…

Alma 19 How many people were there among the Lamanites who had been secretly converted to the Lord like Abish? I find it hard to believe that she was the only one among that whole people although they were surely few in number. I never thought before but it turns out that eight of them…

Alma 18 The way Lamoni talks about the Great Spirit is akin to the way Greeks must have talked about demigods—more than a man but a far cry from an accurate understanding of Deity. The tradition of Lamoni is very similar to the teachings of Nehor and later Korihor. Nehor said that all men would…

Alma 17 I wonder if the abuse and imprisonment that many of the sons of Mosiah endured in the early parts of their missionary efforts, as well as those who went with them to teach the Lamanites, helped to soften the hearts of some Lamanites they came in contact with through those challenges.

Alma 16 It sounds like just under four months after Alma and Amulek were delivered from Ammonihah that the city was destroyed (assuming they had twelve months in the year).
