  • Swift justice

It is not always the case that justice from the Lord is swift as it was when Ammonihah was destroyed Ina day. What is consistent is that when justice from the Lord is served it is sure—the Lord cannot be denied when He determined that the time for repentance has passed.

  • The conversion of Zeezrom

I wonder who was most surprised by the conversation of Zeezrom. I especially wonder between Alma and Zeezrom who was more surprised.

  • Wickedness brewing to ripeness

I get the feeling that the time Alma and Amulek spend in prison in Ammonihah was to allow the people there to be separated and for the wished to become fully ripe unless they chose to repent. During their time there, any in the land who would choose righteousness were either killed or else they…

  • The land of Salem

In telling the story of the land of Salem under Melchizedek, Alma is offering hope to the people of Ammonihah who he has been calling to repentance. “The people of Salem repented from gross wickedness and you can too.”

  • From personal experience

When Alma talked about how sinners would feel standing before God he was speaking from experience because he had a taste of that feeling when he was first visited by the angel and he had wanted to cease existing rather than stand before God.

  • A greater or lesser portion

  • Careless wording

Zeezrom was very aware of the difference between what he asked “will God save His people in their sins” and the truth that God will save people from their sins. I’m sure he used trucks often to manipulate people who were not careful with their words or to make people think he was not being…

  • Ammonihah today

When I read the words Amulek to the people of Ammonihah I can easily imagine him saying the same things today to us. I can also easily imagine many among us today who would respond like Zeezrom and the lawyers twisting his words and seeking to keep the people believing lies.

  • Not widely known

It always strikes me that when Alma prophesied that the Lamanites would be brought to the truth he was almost certainly aware that the sons of Mosiah were already seeing success among the Lamanites.

  • Ammonihah at home

I can really relate to Alma as he first went to Ammonihah—the people didn’t want to listen to his preaching and they rejected his words. I feel the same way with many of the people in my house: they want to maintain something like the status quo while i am declaring that this cannot be.
