  • “The king”

We keep hearing about the king of the Anti-Lehi-Nephis which suggests that they only had one king at this time. That would seem to confirm that at least one of the two they had (Lamoni and Anti-Nephi-Lehi) was killed by their enemies. Either one was killed and the other remained or else both were killed…

  • Not easily swayed

Many people would have been silenced if they had been confronted by someone as Aaron confronted Ammon. For Ammon, he simply clarified the difference between prideful boasting and humble boasting then continued his boasting and praising of God.

  • Who perished first?

I never really thought about the fact that righteous leaders such as Lamoni were likely killed by the angry Lamanites who later destroyed the people of Ammonihah.

  • Righteous kings

Righteous kings are known to lead their people in righteousness. Knowing that, it makes perfect sense that Lamoni and Anti-Lehi-Nephi were at the forefront of their people bowing weaponless before their enemies. If so, they were almost certainly among those killed when the Lamanites, Amalekites and Amulonites began to attack.

  • Big changes

What did the Lamanites think as their king suddenly began telling them to leave the Nephite missionaries alone and to treat each other justly and then began to open friendly correspondence with the Nephites (whatever portion of those changes they were aware of)? I’m sure that those who weren’t converted must have been worried when…

  • The true commitment pattern

As missionaries we were taught to invite people to make commitments based on what we were teaching. While that is a true pattern I think we generally see the reverse of the true pattern. While we should look for opportunities to have people make commitments we would do well to recognize that those who are…

  • First things first

I notice a pattern in the teaching of both Ammon and Aaron – before they started teaching in earnestly they first sight to establish trust to know that their words would be believed. After that they taught from the beginning.

  • Imitations of truth

The Amalekites were harder to preach to partially because they imitated belief in their worship practices so that they could more easily pretend that they had nothing to learn from these missionaries. That is why other Christians can often be the hardest to reach because they think they already have the message. It is easy…

  • Two possible reasons

I finally understand two partial reasons why it was better to meet the father of Lamoni on the road to Middoni than in the city of Lehi. One reason is that in the city of Lehi the king might have felt extra pressure to have Ammon killed. If the scene had played out as it…

  • Believing in secret

I wonder if there were others besides Abish who had secretly been converted to believe in the Lord at earlier points in their lives? Any who had would certainly have been among the first to believe the words of their king and his servants. How often has the Lord paved the way for His servants…
