Good and confused
We can tell that Lamoni was a good man (even before his conversion) because of his instinctive belief in the goodness or justness of the Great Spirit (his understanding of a Supreme Being). Due to his lack of understanding Lamoni was very confused at the prospect that this Great Spirit has come among his people…

Study the opponent
I’m sure that Ammon didn’t accidentally flatter Lamoni. He had been taught the customs of the Lamanites and expected to be taken captive and knew that a positive response would likely be favorably received.

Called to teach a hardened people
The sons of Mosiah were called to preach to a people who were hardened and oppositional to them and their doctrine. I feel the possibility that I am called to preach political philosophy among the people of my own nation to combat extremism and extol robust political discourse in search of common ground. I need…

Clarity at distance
Alma seems to suggest that for those not living where the Savior would come the messages foretelling his coming were even more direct than they might have been at the time and place of His coming. The suggestion is that this was a compensating blessing for not being able to see Him during His mortal…

Someone steps up
It is interesting that when one wicked person torrents there is usually someone ready and willing to take their place in promoting wickedness. Once Zeezrom was silenced Alma still had to field questions from Antionah.

When did Zeezrom hearken?
At what point did Zeezrom turn from being deceitful to being sincere? His conscience might first have been pricked when Amulek declared that Zeezrom knew there was a God – in defiance of Zeezrom’s own actions. At first he kept pushing but I wonder if that first exchange made him begin to think about these…

Called many times
As I read the words of Amulek I begin to wonder if I am like Amulek in that I have failed to hear many times as I have been called. If so I don’t know what I have been called to do but I feel that if I have I have certainly failed to hear.
