  • Good and evil

Alma is clear that all men experience both good and evil in their lives. Those who are taught the difference between good and evil will receive as their reward good it evil according to their desires while those who do not know the difference are held blameless.

  • New normal

With the establishment of the people of Ammon in Jershon the descendants of Lehi entered a new era where there were Lamanites descendants living among the Nephites and Nephite descendants living among the Lamanites. No longer was parentage the determinant of political affiliation.

  • Willing to suffer until death

What conversation was it that brought the people of Anti-Nephi-Lehi to be willing to stay and suffer death in their land rather than seek refugee among the Nephites unless the Lord should direct them to leave? They truly had no fear of death.

This indicates that his understanding of the great Spirit was comparable to the Roman beliefs about their gods – that they were powerful but not necessarily trustworthy – that he might lie when it suited him.
