Expectations
Ammon went about his work as if not unusual had happened but he must have considered the possibility that the story would reach Lamoni. Lamoni was afraid if Ammon because he didn’t know what to expect.

Warned of affliction
The Lord explicitly warned the sons of Mosiah that they would face afflictions during their mission to the Lamanites. They went on their way knowing full well that it would be challenging.

Having heard of Alma
I am left wondering if Zoram and his two sons were not part of the church. They obviously respected it but it sounds as if they approached Alma not as followers but just as people who believed he could help them.
