Alma meant to give a message of proofing lived with hope but the people with hardened hearts heard it as condemning and belittling.

Irony. By design?
Did God choose to have Ammonihah destroyed in one day in order that the consequences of their refusal to heed would be more memorable because of the irony that they taunted Alma with that very prospect?

Questions for Alma
Did Alma recognize the angel from his first visitation or was his information only that the angel informed him that he had delivered the original call? Did Alma have any extra motivation as the original Chief Judge to correct a people selling to destroy the liberty of the Nephites government?

A wake-up call
The rejection from the city of Ammonihah must have been more bitter for Anna after the success he has experienced in the cities of Gideon and Melek.

Ask for whatsoever ye stand in need
This call comes to me today like a command more than an invitation. It’s time to ask for my needs to be met rather than whining about having them go unmet.

Making the circuit
While Alma was seeing to cry repentance among all the Nephites he was also likely showing word (or confirming news) of the change in political leadership.

Pruning the tree
This regulation that Alma makes seems to be a necessary part of the growth of any organization, and especially one still in it’s early periods. As we grow in stability and established practice it should happen less often

Remember bondage and deliverance
Alma reminds people of the origins of the church and the fact that they were repeatedly delivered be protected by the Lord from bondage and potential death. If they don’t recognize that pattern they will fall to understand the good who is there to deliver the children of men.
