When ask their temporal support was not enough to make any headway, Helaman and his armies turned to the Lord for support in their efforts to maintain their land against there Lamanites.

Despite the miracles surrounding the sons of Helaman they still needed the help of every man they could get to preserve their cities from the Lamanites.

Helaman was wise to keep moving forward while his army was strong rather than resting with confidence in his ability to defend the cities he already held. By doing so he kept his enemies on their heels so that they had no time to gather more strength than they already had.

In their very first battle the sons of Helaman displayed great courage in choosing to go to battle for the sake if saving their fellow soldiers who might have been in trouble (they weren’t sure at that point). Although they had never needed saving before, they already knew that the Lord could and would watch…

Aside from their miraculous preservation, another miracle from the sons of Helaman was their timing. They came at a time of great need for the Nephites – providing not just their numbers but a good and assurance that the Lord would provide fit the needs of the Nephites add looking at they were faithful.

Moroni and the Nephites were careful not to stumble on the same trucks they had used in the Lamanites. The guarded against being surrounded, drugged, or caught unprepared.

Moroni went to great lengths to preserve lives when possible, including preserving the lives of the Lamanites who were coming to war against him. It would take extra effort to maintain motivation to go against such a man.
