  • Small Means

Alma is careful to remind Helaman not to take the charge to keep the records lightly. That is why he spends so much time talking about how the Lord uses small means to do great things in His plan of salvation. I take that as a reminder of why I should be careful not to…

  • Alma, son of Alma

I noted from a lesson on 5/22/2016 that I should find this talk. Since that was the entirety of the note I will include my notes from this Ensign article here as well (even though that review didn’t happen on that date).

  • Alma is sure of salvation

Alma had no guilt for his past or doubt about his standing before the Lord. That speaks volumes about his relationship with the Lord.

  • Somehow prepared

Alma and the sons of Mosiah we somehow prepared at the time the angel visited them to be receptive to the message. Considering that they were actively seeking to destroy the church I really wonder what had prepared their minds to be opened at that time.

  • Why Helaman first?

It’s odd to think that the war between the Nephites and the Lamanites was precipitated by the response of the Zoramites to the pacing of Alma and his brethren.

  • Why so angry?

Why were the Zoramites so angry that they would insist that the people in Jershon should evict those whom they had evicted and then would recruit the Lamanites to anger when the people of Jershon didn’t need their angry and unjust demands.

  • Teach then step back

I think it is instructive that alma and his fellow missionaries left the Zoramites when they finished teaching rather than sticking around to have their success. When the Zoramites were free to decide for themselves, those in power used trickery to evict those who believed the words of the missionaries.

  • Don’t put off repentance

Amulek concludes by warning the people that the opportunity to repent isn’t limitless. If they ignore the invitation for to long their opportunity will die with them.
