The pride of the church

Amlici adapted his strategy to his opportunities. He sought to be mage King by the voice of the people, then tried to take it by force, then joined with the Lamanites to try bringing the Nephites into subjection.

Real wealth comes from righteousness
The people who set their hearts upon riches were able to gain weakly or at least appear wealthy with their visit apparel but those who focused on industry and sharing their substance with those in need became truly wealthy over time.

Belief vs breaking the law
The law had no hold on Nehor based on his teachings. It was only when he took action by killing Gideon that there was a way to punish him according to the law. Alma noted how destructive priestcraft was, but he punished Nehor fit murder, not for promoting priestcraft.

Priestcraft
When we try to assist righteous in order to be popular or to receive personal gain we are guilty of priestcraft even if we don’t think of it in those terms. Alma was very clear about that and about its final consequences in a society.
