What we already know
How often does the Lord remind us of what we already know, as He does here with Oliver Cowdery, rather than needing to reveal something new to us?

Too heavy a burden
It sounds like Joseph would not have been able to bear the burden of being the sole witness of the plates (not that anyone would have been able to bear such a burden).

The Whitmer’s
This whole family had provided support to Joseph Smith as he worked to complete the translation of the Book of Mormon and prepared to publish it. The Lord answered their requests for direction with words of encouragement. Four of the eleven witnesses to the Book of Mormon came from this one family.

Upon you my fellow servants
In some ways this might be the most impactful revelation of the restoration. No more was the restoration just words or doctrine, now the authority to administer in sacred ordinances of salvation was restored to men so that they could bring the children of God to repentance and to walk the path to eternal life.

None can assist except he be humble

Saving His prophet
The Lord warned Joseph how to avoid the trap set by those who stole the manuscript from Martin Harris. The Lord doesn’t always prevent us from stepping in snares. He always earns us generically about snares and when it is really important that we not be share snared, such as Joseph helping to initiate the…

Not more than you have strength or means
In full context verse 4 of more complete, powerful, and telling than at first glance. “Don’t run faster than you have strength” could be no more than a simple platitude but “do not run faster or labor more than you have strength and means provided” clearly indicates that the Lord will ensure that the strength…

Not condemned
I love the assurance to Oliver Cowdery that even though his opportunity to translate had been taken relative to the Book of Mormon the Lord did not condemned him for not pursuing the gift further. Essentially “I’ve changed my decision now but that doesn’t mean you are in any trouble.” Often we may feel censure…
