I notice that sometimes the righteous people overthrow a wicked king while other times a righteous king had to protect the prophets from his wicked people.

No organized religion
One thing that strikes me about the Jaredites is that we have no indication that they ever had an organized religion. That might explain why they feel so quickly (within two generations) when they began to turn to evil and why the prophets among them had limited success in bringing them to repentance.
